2022-2023 NSDUH: State-Specific Tables

Published by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services | Metadata Last Checked: September 07, 2025 | Last Modified: 2025-09-06
Browse population estimates based on the 2022-2023 National Surveys on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) for each state and region. There are four tables for each geographic area, which present population estimates and percentages for 38 measures of substance use and mental health by age group. These estimates are based on small area estimation (SAE) methods in which state-level NSDUH data are combined with other data from smaller geographies. The combined data are used to create modeled state estimates of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population ages 12 and older (or adults 18 and older for mental health measures). The tables are available in a zip file of PDFs or as an HTML file. There is also a table of contents which contains links to specific state files in HTML or PDF.Tables labeled with an A include measures of substance use and perceptions of substance use. Tables labeled with a B include measures of substance use disorder and treatment, and mental health measures.
