A Collaborative Process to Develop Solutions for Tidal Road Flooding in China Camp State Park - NERRS/NSC(NERRS Science Collaborative)
This project initiated an adaptation planning process to address tidal road flooding in China Camp State Park in the San Francisco Bay area. Using a facilitated process that blended technical expertise and active community participation, a wide range of stakeholders representing diverse local interests identified and evaluated adaptation options for the park’s North San Pedro Road. New field research improved understanding of the extent to which sea level rise influences the shoreline, marsh, and road. A series of workshops generated a clearly defined set of adaptation options and their pros and cons, and created a strategy to move forward with planning and implementation. The project offers a potential model for other communities facing similar threats to coastal infrastructure.
