Anchored hybrid enrichment in Potamilus mussels

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2020-08-30T00:00:00Z
Freshwater mussels are a species-rich group with biodiversity patterns shaped by life history strategies that include an obligate parasitic larval stage. Anchored hybrid enrichment (AHE) and ancestral character reconstruction (ACR) revealed convergence of life history strategies involving larval morphologies that reduce size to increase fecundity and require growth during encapsulation to increase survival post-metamorphosis.
