Antietam National Battlefield Topographic Wetness Index

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 07, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-09-24T00:00:00Z
The HTLM output from an R Markdown file showing the topographic wetness index (TWI) for Antietam National Battlefield. Users can see source files and methods and adjust visible layers and opacity and zoom around imbedded map. TWIs are used to estimate areas of the land where water is more and less likely to accumulate. Resolution is at multiple scales: 1 meter (original raster resolution), 2 meter, and 15 meter. The park can use this information to understand where water is likely to collect during rain storms and inform facilities and natural resource projects. See related files for R Script containing all code to reproduce HTLM and ArcGIS package file.
