Attwater's greater prairie-chicken cell lines cultured in 2025

Three cell lines of Attwater’s greater prairie-chickens were cultured and stored in frozen archives in 2025. This work was funded through the US Fish and Wildlife Service Southwest Region Ecological Services and the project was coordinated by Brian Small. Tissues were salvaged from captive animals housed at Sutton Avian Research Center for captive propagation under authority of Recovery Permit ES051839 issued to Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge. These three cell lines were derived from two females and one male as described below. Studbook number 10604, female, cultured by San Diego Wildlife Alliance, stored at San Diego Frozen Zoo®, cell line number FZ 12098 Studbook number 13299, male, cultured by Viagen, stored at National Animal Germplasm Program, cell line number 13299 Studbook number 14849, female, cultured by Viagen, stored at National Animal Germplasm Program, cell line number V8882
