Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2020-08-26T00:00:00Z
The Grand Calumet River is located east of Chicago, Illinois and flows east to west across the Indiana-Illinois border to its confluence with the Little Calumet River. In 2017, a suite of water level, temperature, and bathymetric data were collected along the Grand Calumet River. A bathymetric survey was accomplished over seven days in July, August, and October 2017, using the depth-sounding capabilities of a Teledyne RDI WorkHorse Rio Grande Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) deployed from a canoe. The depth data were converted to bed elevations using water level data collected with Mini-Diver sensors in combination with water level data from two U.S. Geological Survey streamgaging stations (05536357 GRAND CALUMET RIVER AT HOHMAN AV AT HAMMOND, IN, and 04092677 GRAND CALUMET RIVER AT INDUSTRIAL HWY AT GARY, IN).
