CO-OPS Conductivity Observations from Coastal Stations within the United States and Its Territories
The Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) of the National Ocean Service (NOS), an organizational element of NOAA, operates and maintains a network of conductivity sensors for determining the instantaneous electrical conductivity of water in navigable waterways in the US. These observations are part of the National Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System (PORTS) Program. The data from these sensors, when combined with temperature, can be used to calculate water salinity and density, which are important tools for safe navigation, especially in the determination of ship draft. Included in this data collection are preliminary 6-minute conductivity observations from coastal stations in the US.
