Commercial Wind Electric Generation Regions

Published by California Energy Commission | State of California | Metadata Last Checked: July 29, 2025 | Last Modified: 2023-05-02T21:23:14.000Z
Wind Resource Areas represent regions in California with many operational commercial wind electric generation plants. These regions are intended to be used for general reference purposes. These regions were created by CEC staff using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to find concentrations of operational wind electric generation plants with a generation capacity of 2 MW or larger and within 15 miles of each other. These regions were further expanded 5 additional miles to account for possible future projects in the same areas.  Other plants of less than 2 MW may exist within the regions.  The regions were updated in March, 2023.
