Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 07, 2026 | Last Modified: 2018-10-16T00:00:00Z
Summary of proposed field methods and activities: Several decayed wood logs (fallen trees) in the proposed collection site will be opened with hatchets or rock hammers to find the cockroaches inhabiting inside of the logs. This activity will be conducted out of public view. We will never damage living trees and other plants. Approximately 20-30 individuals will be collected from each location by hand (one log may harbor nearly 10 individuals) and the disturbed logs will be-reassembled as much as possible. These specimens will be used for in-house experiments.
