The overall missions of this cruise were to test and evaluate the performance of Deep-See, and collect scientific data using the acoustical and optical systems of Deep-See as well as MOCNESS, midwater trawl, nutrient, eDNA gear and instrumentation, and automated underway instruments to characterize surface layer plankton by imaging and productivity derived from gas tracers. Deep-See was developed to sample the meso- and bathypelagic layers (> 400 m) at depth, and Deep-See was deployed to depths down to 1,500 m in the off-shelf regions in the northern mid-Atlantic.
