The NEFSC bottom trawl survey is a fisheries independent, multi-species survey that provides the primary scientific data for fisheries assessments in the U.S. mid-Atlantic and New England regions. Evolution and change in gear and trawl components are managed by conducting experimental tows with new gear and components and comparing these gear to the standard bottom trawl used in the NEFSC bottom trawl surveys.
