Operations focused on continental shelf and shelf-break waters between the NC-VA border and St. Lucie Inlet, Florida, between 18-200 m deep. Leg 1 consisted entirely of sonar mapping during the ship's northward transit, beginning at St. Lucie Inlet, FL. CTD (SBE911) casts and SonTek CastAway casts were conducted at the beginning of mapping operations and at least every 4 hours for sound velocity data. Sound velocity profiles were applied to the Kongsberg EM2040 during mapping operations and were also applied to the multibeam data in post-processing with CARIS.
