The Resource Assessment and Conservation Engineering (RACE) Division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) conducted the Eastern Bering Sea Upper Continental Slope Bottom Trawl Survey of Groundfish and Invertebrate Resources from May 31 to August 10, 2016. This cruise continued the biennial series of eastern Bering Sea slope crab and groundfish stock assessment surveys, which began anew in 2002. The 2016 EBSS trawl survey is the sixth in this series of biennial groundfish surveys that incorporate the AFSC’s latest sampling technologies and protocols for survey design, catch data gathering, species identification, and net mensuration monitoring. The new standard survey covered the Bering Sea slope between the depths of 200 and 1200 m from Unimak Pass to the international date-line in Navarin Canyon.
