The Resource Assessment and Conservation Engineering (RACE) Division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) conducted the Eastern Bering Sea Continental Shelf Bottom Trawl Survey of Groundfish and Invertebrate Resources in 2021. This cruise continued the annual series of eastern Bering Sea crab and groundfish stock assessment surveys, which began in 1971. The survey covered the Bering Sea shelf between the depths of 20 and 200 m from Bristol Bay northward to latitude 62° N. Upon completing the 2021 Eastern Bering Sea Continental Shelf Bottom Trawl Survey of Groundfish and Invertebrate Resources, the Resource Assessment and Conservation Engineering Division (RACE) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) extended survey operations to the northern Bering Sea, including the area of the Bering Sea shelf from the northern extent of the standard survey (approximately 40 nm north of St. Matthew Island) north to the Bering Strait and covering Norton Sound as well.
