Published by data.ny.gov | State of New York | Metadata Last Checked: July 29, 2025 | Last Modified: 2024-07-01
In 2020, NYSERDA performed the geophysical survey of two study areas in the Atlantic Ocean:, the Hudson North and Hudson South. This will further the understanding of site conditions to support offshore wind energy development. A knowledge of the physical and environmental conditions in these areas reduces risk for developers, increases safety and efficiency, and provides a starting point for project development. Information collected includes geological structure, lithology, and soil characteristics within the draft Wind Energy Areas (WEAs), from the seafloor to approximately 100 meters (m) (330 feet) below seabed (bsb). The goal of this project is to publicize high-quality seabed soil data sufficient for reducing lease holder uncertainty. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) offers objective information and analysis, innovative programs, technical expertise, and support to help New Yorkers increase energy efficiency, save money, use renewable energy, accelerate economic growth, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
