Habitat suitability models of deep-sea Stylaster and Swiftia sp from Cordell Banks, California (NCEI Accession 0297221)

Published by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Metadata Last Checked: January 29, 2026 | Last Modified: 2024-12-19T00:00:00.000+00:00
Predicted distributions of two genera of deep-sea corals, Stylaster and Swiftia sp, in the Cordell Banks National Marine Sanctuary were generated using generalized linear model logistic regression of presence/absence coral records obtained from video surveys conducted between 2001-2005. Environmental layers used in the modeling of the distribution of these taxa are also part of this data package and include habitat (depth (continuous), slope (continuous), aspect (categorical, 8 classes), topographic position index at 4 different scales (continuous), rugosity (continuous), and substrate (categorical, 3 classes). For more information on the data collection and modeling effort, refer to Etherington et al. (2011). All models and environmental layers are presented in the GeoTIFF format.
