Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Earthquake Catalog for the region around Mauna Loa 2009-2023

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2024-11-06T00:00:00Z
Catalog datasets in support of publication, "A Decade of Precursory Seismicity at Mauna Loa: 2013-2022". The earthquake catalogs begin April 1, 2009 and extend to January 1, 2023. The entire dataset has been generated with the ANSS Quake Management System (AQMS), which has the real-time software package Earthworm at its core. Automated and reviewed locations use the Hypoinverse location program and data is given in Hypoinverse format. One catalog contains all earthquakes within the catalog, regardless of whether the locations have been reviewed or not. There is no mechanism in the Hypoinverse format to distinguish a reviewed from an automated event. The second catalog consists only of earthquakes reviewed by a seismic analyst. Both catalogs contain earthquakes within 45 kilometers of the summit of Mauna Loa.
