Head of Old River Barrier Index Values for California-Great Basin Water Quality Investigations Special Study: Exploring Flow and Water Quality Relationships Between the Interior Southern Delta and the San Joaquin River at Vernalis

Published by Bureau of Reclamation | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 06, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-08-05T15:58:28Z
A time series of daily index values for indicating whether the Head of Old River (HOR) temporary rock barrier is present (value = 1) or not present (value = 0). The HOR temporary barrier is a legacy rock barrier seasonally installed on Old River at its confluence with the San Joaquin River in the southern Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, CA. A public record of the spring and fall HOR barrier installation dates is available on the California Department of Water Resources' South Delta Temporary Barriers Project website. https://water.ca.gov/Programs/State-Water-Project/Operations-and-Maintenance/South-Delta-Temporary-Barriers-Project. This HOR barrier index is needed in the computer code to reproduce the analyses described in the "Exploring Flow and Water Quality Relationships Between the Interior Southern Delta and the San Joaquin River at Vernalis" final report. Records of dates were manually translated to a daily index value for the period of study.
