Published by Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) | Department of Transportation | Metadata Last Checked: December 17, 2025 | Last Modified: 2025-02-28T00:00:00.000+00:00
The Intermodal Freight Facilities Rail TOFC/COFC dataset was compiled on November 15, 2024 and was updated on February 28, 2025 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The TOFC/COFC dataset focuses on locations of Trailer-on-Flatcar (TOFC) and Container-on-Flatcar (COFC) terminals, key for intermodal freight transport. TOFC also known as "piggyback", involves loading semi-trailers onto flatcars, while COFC involves loading containers directly onto flatcars. All TOFC/COFC terminals are intermodal, using rail and truck modes, with some also incorporating marine modes. The dataset includes the services provided at each facility (TOFC only, COFC only, both TOFC and COFC, or TOFC/COFC - Unverified if no explicit indication of either was found), the Station Point Location Code (SPLC) associated with the rail facility name, facility type (Rail, Truck, and /or Marine), and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) Port ID. This dataset is one of several layers in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) Intermodal Freight Facility Database.
