JELA Barataria Canal Backfill Monitoring - Baseline Data

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 07, 2026 | Last Modified: 2022-01-01T00:00:00Z
This Microsoft Access format database contains environmental and ecological parameter data collected as a part of the JELA Barataria Preserve Canal Backfilling for Hydrologic Restoration Project. These 2021-2022 data represent baseline conditions at 12 monitoring sites prior to reducing canal spoilbank elevation to the elevation of the adjacent wetland by pulling this material into the canal. This database includes observations of water quality, soils, surface elevation table pin elevations, herbaceous and woody vegetation, herbaceous standing biomass, and nekton community composition. The sampling design included six sites along canals that were to be backfilled and six sites along canals that would not be backfilled. In each group, four sites are herbaceous wetlands (marshes) and two sites are forested wetlands (swamps).
