Published by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 07, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-04-11T00:00:00Z
This dataset contains catch data for juvenile Atlantic Sturgeon in the Hudson River from 2003 - 2005. This project was funded by the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) through a reimbursable agreement with the Northeast Fishery Center with the objective of developing a juvenile Atlantic Sturgeon monitoring program which NYSDEC could then continue into the future. A stratified random sampling design was implemented in Newburgh and Haverstraw Bays of the Hudson River with strata consisting of combinations of depth and substrate type. Juvenile Atlantic Sturgeon were captured with gillnets in the spring (March - April) and fall (October - November). The results of this work recommended locations, time of year, and sample sizes for continued monitoring of the juvenile Atlantic Sturgeon into the future.
