This dataset provides three-dimensional (3D) visualizations of fish from a 4-year project to simultaneously study the ecology and archaeology around shipwrecks located on the continental shelf of North Carolina, USA. The data layers within this project include multibeam bathymetry of the shipwrecks collected from ship echo sounders, as well as 3D representations and quantifications of individual fish and schools of fish. Data is available in both geodatabase and shapefile formats. This collaborative project led by NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science and Monitor National Marine Sanctuary aims to understand how shipwrecks form both ecological and cultural resources. Information learned from this joint research helps celebrate North Carolina’s ecological diversity and maritime cultural heritage while expanding recreational, tourism, education, and economic development opportunities.
