Long-term water quality conditions in sentinel streams at Isle Royale National Park and Grand Portage National Monument

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 25, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-05-09T00:00:00Z
This is a project-based dataset resulting from a collaborative study of long-term trends in water quality, hydrology, and meteorological phenomena in the Lake Superior basin, as featured in the report "Long-term water quality conditions in sentinel streams at Isle Royale National Park and Grand Portage National Monument." The project focused specifically on exploring statistical patterns, correlations, and trends in hydrometeorological phenomena, stream flow, and the physio-chemical characteristics of five watersheds in the basin. The dataset includes previously unpublished water quality data collected by Michigan Technological University, as well as data published elsewhere but incorporated into the analyses featured in the report (e.g., meteorological and streamflow measurements). The project was funded by the National Park Service (NPS) Natural Resource Condition Assessment Program and the Great Lake Inventory and Monitoring Network, as well as the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and through an Intergovernmental Compact between the NPS and the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
