Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 25, 2026 | Last Modified: 1999-09-01T00:00:00Z
This data set contains location, textural, and chemical parameters for 346 sediment samples from 32 cores collected in Maryland's Coastal Bays. The location parameters include UTM zone 18 North coordinates, as well as Maryland State Plane Grid (in meters), and latitude and longitude for sediment sample locations. Textural parameters include percent by weight of water, sand, silt, clay and gravel size components, and cumulative weight percentages for quarter phi size class between -1 phi and 4 phi, phi values for 5, 16, 50, 84, and 95 cumulative percentiles. Chemical parameters include total nitrogen, total carbon, organic carbon, reactive carbon, total phosphorus, and total sulfur contents and concentrations for nine metals: cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, manganese, nickel, and zinc. The set also includes monosulfide speciation data and Lead-210 activity values (for sedimentation rates).
