Medication-Assisted Treatment Facility Maps (MAT)

Published by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services | Metadata Last Checked: September 07, 2025 | Last Modified: 2025-09-06
The purpose of the medication-assisted treatment (MAT) facility maps is to identify areas on a state-by-state basis that may be potentially underserved by existing treatment facilities. The maps are created with a methodology that seeks to include the highest potential need areas from individual counties so that county-level stakeholders are also informed. The maps are meant to be used as a tool for policy makers to determine potentially underserved areas—not as a definitive representation of these areas. For more information on the methodology used by the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ) to create this set of state maps showing specific areas (census tracts) that are potentially underserved by medication-assisted treatment (MAT) facilities, please clickhere[PDF 847KB].
