NAIP Quarter-quad Index - NPS Quarter-quads of Interest

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 25, 2026 | Last Modified: 2014-04-01T00:00:00Z
Shape file of NAIP holdings for NPS quads of interest. This data set is a single shape file that shows the locations of Digital Orthophoto Quarter-quad (DOQQ) images that are available through the National Park Service's (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring Program. Most of these data sets are from the NAIP program. A full description of NAIP data can be found at the web site of the USDA Aerial Photography Field Office (APFO): http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/apfoapp?area=home&subject=prog&topic=nai. A small number of the data sets were not produced by the NAIP program but are "NAIP-like" and may not have complete metadata records. The geographic extent of the shape file was determined by the NPS "Quarter-quads of Interest" (QQOI). There are several updates in this version of the shapefile (NPS_DOQQ_20140401.shp), compared to the previous version (NPS_DOQQ_20091116.shp). These updates during the spring of 2014 reflected the acquisition of the 2013 NAIP data sets for several states. A small number of quarter-quads in the Southeast Region were added to the shape file as a result of requests from parks, based on watershed boundaries or other criteria. These additions to the shape file are not additions to the official NPS QQOI layer and in no way indicate an NPS-wide intention to acquire other data sets (e.g. base cartographic layers) for these added quarter-quads. They were added simply for DOQQ management and acquisition purposes. In addition to these updates, the "QUADNAME" addtribute was added to the attribute table.
