National Park Service Alaska Region Archive of Elemental Concentration of Moss Tissue, Lichen Tissue and Soils, 2000 – 2019

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 07, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-02-21T00:00:00Z
This data archive holds the elemental concentration and associated data from moss, lichen and soil collections in the NPS Alaska Region from 2000 to 2019. The sample media analyzed came from 17 different projects addressing a variety of purposes. Many of these have corresponding peer-reviewed publications and typically those publications also reference data archives in IRMA (irma.nps.gov) that hold portions of the current archive. The archive is divided into two folders: • The Compiled_Data folder consists of an archive description and a compilation of all of the raw data in the region between 2000 and 2019 (Tissue_Master_20250211.xlsx). The Compiled_Data folder contains a subfolder with CSV versions of the individual worksheets of the Tissue_Master_20250211.xlsx workbook. • The Raw_Data folder contains the lab reports and environmental data for each year or project. Within the main archive (Tissue_Master 20250211.xlsx) there are five worksheets: 1. Joined: a join of all Elemental data with matching data from the Site worksheet. 2. Elemental: elemental analysis data for all moss, lichen and soil data 3. Site: data on collection, project, publication, coordinates, and spatial accuracy. 4. Lab Job Data: data on the analytical laboratory conducting the analysis and other pertinent details 5. SRM Values: Standard Reference Material values used in QA/QC 6. Metadata: descriptions of all data fields. In addition to the records in this archive, there are additional soil elemental data from 2017 in CAKR along the Red Dog Mine Haul Road. These are included as an appendix in an attached M.S. Thesis from Oregon State University.
