New Mexican Oil and Gas Well Data in the Permian Basin, New Mexico, 2011-2019. Derived from New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (NMOCD) and FracFocus data.

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2020-09-30T00:00:00Z
The New Mexico Oil Conservation Division maintains information on oil and gas wells. However, no information regarding the water usage associated with hydraulic fracturing is reported and maintained. This dataset is the result of combining well information from the NMOCD and water volume information from the FracFocus dataset. Hydraulic fracturing for each well was assumed to correlate to the NMOCD well construction finished date. The water volume assigned for hydraulic fracturing of NMOCD wells was obtained by averaging FracFocus wells by county and year and assigning those values to the NMOCD wells based on year the well was completed and county the well is located.
