Published by Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2015-07-30T00:00:00.000+00:00
A 180-m (6 arc-second) resolution gridded digital elevation model (DEM) for the bathymetry (ocean depth) of the Western Pacific Ocean surrounding the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the Earth's oceans. The extent of the DEM encompasses not only the Mariana Trench, but also the West Mariana Ridge and the East Mariana Ridge, the island of Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). It was compiled by the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), formerly the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), from various data sources including international, federal, and academic partners. Not to be used for navigational purposes. For a grayscale hillshade image layer of this dataset, see "mp_ngdc_all_bathy180m_hillshade" in the distribution links listed in the metadata. For further details about this dataset, please see: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/metadata/geoportal/rest/metadata/item/gov.noaa.ngdc.mgg.dem:4870/html.
