Nonnative Plant Inventory

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 25, 2026 | Last Modified: 2000-09-01T00:00:00Z
This is a geospatial dataset showing noxious and nonnative weed locations mapped from 1998 to 2000 at Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. The intended use of all data in the park's GIS library is to support diverse park activities including planning, management, maintenance, research, and interpretation. These are vector point, line, and polygon files showing the locations of noxious and nonnative weeds mapped and treated from 1998 to 2000 throughout Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. This zipped file contains weed locations smaller than 5 meters in diameter (weed points), with a linear distribution (weed lines), and those covering areas larger than 5 meters in diameter (weed areas). This is not a comprehensive survey of the entire park. Weed locations were mapped within the pre-2000 monument boundaries and along Highway 93/20/26 from milemarker 227 to 232. The coordinates for this data set were collected using a Trimble GeoExplorer2 GPS unit. Most of the weed points were treated mechanically by hand. Knapweed points were sprayed with herbicide and some of the more remote points in the wilderness area were mapped but were not treated.
