Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 07, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-06-25T00:00:00Z
Fire effects monitoring data collected at North Cascades National Park, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, and San Juan Island National Historical Park in Washington and John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Oregon. The data were collected during summer and fall field seasons by the fire effects monitoring crew out of North Cascades NP from 1995 to present. Data collected from shrub and/or grass transects are 30 meter point intercept data to obtain relative and percent cover. Shrub cover data is also measured in ten 1 meter sq. subplots along the same transect. Photographs are taken from each end of the transect to document change. Data collected from 50 x 20 m forest plots include tree inventory to obtain density and basal area, fuel load using Brown's method for inventorying surface fuels and biomass, seedling density, as well as all shrub transect methods for 50 m transects.
