Pacific Island Network Anchialine Pool Monitoring Dataset 2019 - 2024

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 25, 2026 | Last Modified: 2025-03-17T00:00:00Z
Anchialine pools were surveyed in two Pacific Island Network parks, Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park (KAHO) and Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park National Historical Park (PUHO), to quantify the annual abundance of select crustaceans, mollusc, odonate, and fish species in order to determine if the population size of these species declines or increases over time within each anchialine pool. Abiotic and biotic characteristics were also measured, which included riparian vegetation monitoring, percent cover, canopy closure, substrate particle size, water depth, light measurements, and water quality assessment. Surveys occurred in each park in 2019 and 2023 - 2024 and at PUHO in 2022. This dataset contains the results of the anchialine pool surveys for KAHO and PUHO in 2019 and 2022-2024.
