A filter (10) for use in engines or transmissions is provided comprising an outlet-side cover (12) having a first wave-like region along the periphery of the outlet-side cover, a filter media tray having a second wave-like region, along the periphery of the filter media tray wherein the filter media tray second wave-like region is in a generally complementary alignment with the first wave-like region of the outlet-side cover, a filter media (14) fixed in a non-planar configuration between the first wave-like region of the outlet-side cover and the second wave-like region of the filter media, and an inlet-side cover (16) joined to the outlet-side cover, wherein the filter media and the filter media tray is between the inlet-side cover and the outlet-side cover.
