Patent AT-E40044-T1: [Translated] VACCINE FOR THE PROTECTION OR INHIBITION OF HUMAN TOOTH ROOT INDUCED BY CARTOGENIC STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS.

Published by National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services | Metadata Last Checked: September 07, 2025 | Last Modified: 2025-09-06
A vaccine comprising as active ingredient living cells of a Human mutant strain of Streptococcus mutans is effective to specifically inhibit the growth of cariogenic wild strains of Streptococcus mutans and may be used for preventing or inhibiting Streptococcus mutans induced dental caries. The mutant strain is substantially deficient in cariogenic potential and may be isolated from human oral flora or may be artificially induced from cariogenic wild strains of S. mutans. The non-cariogenic mutant strain may be administered in the form of a food composition such as a drink, comprising living cells, of the mutant strain in association with a liquid carrier conventionally used for preparing drinks containing the living cells of edible lactic acid-producing bacilli. When the living cells of the non-cariogenic mutant strain of this invention and the living cells of edible lactic acid-producing bacilli are mixed, for example, in the form of yogurt, the cariogenic potentials of both the cariogenic S. mutans and the edible lactic acid-producing bacilli may be prevented or inhibited effectively.
