1. Process for the hydroformylation of methanol, characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising : a) cobalt and/or (a) cobalt compound(s), b) at least one iodide of the group : LiJ, NaJ, KJ, RbJ, CsJ, (N R1 R2 R3 R4 ) **+J**- , and/or compounds, which form at least one iodide of this group, whereby R1 , R2 , R3 and R4 may be H, alkyl- and aryl group, preferably H, CH3 , C2 H5 and C6 H5 , c) methyl iodide and/or methyl iodide forming compounds in the presence of 1,4-dioxane and/or alkylated 1,4-dioxane and that the hydroformylation is carried out continuously and the catalyst is recycled.
