An emergency device (10) having a housing (12) with an illumination device (42,144), and a receiver (48), tuner and speakers (54) positioned within the housing. A power source is electrically coupled with the emergency device and is generally a conventional power cord (30). An outage circuit (100) is coupled with the power source. Upon sensing a power outage, the outage circuit, which is connected to the illuminating device (42,144), illuminates the illuminating device (42,144) or another auxiliary device.
