The District is on a mission to reach and maintain urban tree canopy coverage of 40% by 2032. Urban tree canopy is the layer of leaves, stems, and branches that cover the city. Among many other benefits, these trees improve our air and water quality, cool our neighborhoods, and provide critical habitat for birds and bees. See our progress and learn more about how we are achieving this ambitious goal.
