| description |
To better understand the current air quality status in the District, the following summary highlights key pollutants and their compliance with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). These standards are designed to ensure the air remains safe and healthy for both residents and visitors. In this context, areas are classified as either in "attainment" (meeting EPA air quality standards) or "nonattainment" (not meeting them). The summary below outlines the District's current status with respect to these classifications.

Ground-Level Ozone (O3): The District and the metropolitan region are currently in moderate nonattainment status of the 2015 8-hour ground-level O3 NAAQS, though have also been determined by EPA to have attained the NAAQS by the deadline and will be redesignated pending further EPA approval.

Particulate Matter: The District is in attainment for both the 2012 annual PM2.5 NAAQS and the 24-hour NAAQS.

Carbon Monoxide (CO): The District is in attainment for both the 2010 8-hour and the 1-hour NAAQS

Sulfur Dioxide (SO2): The District is in attainment for both the 2010 1-hour and the 2024 annual NAAQS.

Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2): The District is in attainment for the 2010 1-hour and the 1971 annual NAAQS.

Lead (Pb): The District is in attainment for the 2008 NAAQS.

|
