Southeast Alaska ESI: INDEX (Index Polygons)
This data set contains vector polygons representing the boundaries of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 1:63,360 topographic maps and other map and digital data boundaries used in the creation of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) for Southeast Alaska. Specifically, these data were used for the creation of the hardcopy ESI and Socioeconomic information maps. See the BIOINDEX (Biological Index Polygons) layer for additional boundary information. This data set comprises a portion of the ESI data for Southeast Alaska. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.
