Marine animal sightings, sea birds, benthic animals, trace metal concentrations in fish, chlorophyll a and phaeophytin, physical and chemical characterization of sewage sludge, marine toxic substances and pollutants, salinity, water temperature, and other data were collected using visual observations, bottle casts, and other instruments from GYRE and other platforms in the New York Bight and North Atlantic Ocean. Data were collected from 01 August 1984 to 26 May 1990 by Battelle Marine Research Laboratory in New England with support from Ocean Dumping project.
