Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2022-10-19T00:00:00Z
The objective of the Virginia Bridge Scour Pilot Study is to investigate methods for improving the utility of estimates of hydrologic flow in streams and rivers used when evaluating potential pier scour over the design-life of highway bridges in Virginia. Data measuring daily discharge and instantaneous discharge were required for analysis. The provided daily value and instantaneous value discharge files consist of period-of-record discharge data acquired from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) for the 10 sites selected for study. The provided daily and instantaneous discharge files contain data categories that include: Agency Code, Station Number, datetime, Year, Month, Day, Daily Discharge, Log10(Daily Discharge), Daily Discharge Code, Instantaneous Discharge, Log10(Instantaneous Discharge), and Instantaneous Discharge Code.
