Published by Office of Response and Restoration | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Metadata Last Checked: December 19, 2025 | Last Modified: 2005-12-01T00:00:00.000+00:00
This data set contains vector lines and polygons representing the shoreline and coastal habitats for Virginia, classified according to the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) classification system. This data set comprises a portion of the ESI data for Virginia. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. See also the WETLANDS (Wetland Polygons) data layer, part of the larger Virginia ESI database, for additional coastal habitat information.
