The water depth and temperature data was collected as part of Equatorial Pacific Ocean Climate Studies from NOAA Ship Discoverer and NOAA Ship Oceanographer. The data was collected from the TOGA (Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere) Area in the Pacific (30 N to 30 S) from April 23, 1979 to May 21, 1982. The originator's bathythermograph (XBT) data was submitted in a tape by Margie McCarty of Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, Seattle, WA. The data has been converted and is now available on line in C116 file format of NODC.
