Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: January 27, 2026 | Last Modified: 2020-08-21T00:00:00Z
In the summers of 1982 through 1985, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted geologic studies Bureau of Land Management Wilderness Study Areas on the Kern Plateau as well as the U.S. Forest Service South Sierra Wilderness and South Sierra Roadless Area. These study areas are underlain mostly by granitic rocks of the Sierra Nevada batholith. In support of geologic mapping and mineral-resource assessment, 74 samples were analyzed for major-element oxides (SiO2, Al2O3, Fe Total, MgO, CaO, Na2O, K2O, TiO2, P2O5, and MnO) by X-ray fluorescence (XRF). This table gives the results of those analyses.
