Wintering Waterfowl Monitoring - Central Valley - 1955-2022

The Waterfowl Program annually monitors wintering waterfowl (ducks, cranes and coots) in the Central Valley, along with US FWS partners, using fixed-wing aircraft, 1955 to current. Data are collected from fixed-wing aircraft with 2 observers in each. The survey is conducted the first full week in January, weather dependent. The Central Valley is into basins based on the Central Valley Joint Venture implementation areas. Species and number observed collected. Survey has been conducted since 1955 however a revised survey was developed in 2015 and continues annually. The project is funded by Pittman-Roberston Grant and State Duck Stamp funds. This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000650.
