Yearlong records of ADCP ocean ourrents (U, V, W) collected by the EcoFOCI group at NOAA, PMEL from eight Chukchi Sea Mooring sites C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C10, C11 and C12 in the eastern Chukchi Sea, Alaska as part of the Distributed Biological Observatory – Northern Chukchi Integrated Study research cruise, 2018-08-11 to 2019-08-20 (NCEI Accession 0311544)

These time series datasets consist of current data (U, V, W) from moored instruments at eight PMEL, Ecosystems & Fisheries-Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (EcoFOCI) stations in the Chukchi Sea (C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C10, C11, C12). The Chukchi region is a shallow and seasonally ice-covered shelf, and instruments were located at near-bottom depths to avoid possible ice interference. Data were collected using Teledyne RDI Workhorse Sentinel ADCP (WCP) instruments, which were deployed on year-long moorings in August, 2018 from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (HE1801), and recovered the following August, 2019 from the Research Vessel Ocean Starr (OS1901); data span 2018-08-11 to 2019-08-20. Deployments and data collection were part of the Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO) – Northern Chukchi Integrated Study research cruise. Each mooring included other instruments in addition to the ADCP; those biophysical data sets (temperature, salinity, fluorescence and other variables) are in a separate contribution to NOAA/NCEI. Cruises were funded by NOAA, PMEL for the EcoFOCI program which included scientists from both NOAA and the University of Washington, Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean, and Ecosystem Studies (CICOES). Funding was also provided by the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) as part of the Arctic Integrated Ecosystem Research Program (IERP). Recovery operations were managed by EcoFOCI personnel. Mooring time series data were processed at NOAA/PMEL/EcoFOCI using standard techniques. Time is recorded as UTC. Data were submitted as gridded, CF-compliant NetCDF files. Data contacts: Phyllis Stabeno, Shaun Bell, Ryan McCabe, Peggy Sullivan. [ Approximate Mooring station locations in the eastern Chukchi Sea: C1 - 70.838 N, 163.125 W C2 - 71.231 N, 164.223 W C3 - 71.828 N, 166.070 W C4 - 71.038 N, 160.514 W C5 - 71.203 N, 158.011 W C10 - 70.211 N, 167.787 W C11 - 70.013 N, 166.855 W C12 - 67.911 N, 168.195 W. ] Longitudes are in degW.
